1. Comparatives and superlatives
a) So sánh hơn (Comparatives)
So sánh hơn là để so sánh giữa hai người hoặc vật/ sự vật.
Jiro is taller than Yukio.
Yukio is tall, but Jiro is taller.
b) So sánh hơn nhất (Superlatives)
So sánh hơn nhất là để so sánh nhiều hơn hai người hoặc vật. Thông thường các câu so sánh hơn nhất có THE, bởi chỉ có một thứ là nhất.
Masami is the tallest in the class.
Yukio is tall, and Jiro is taller, but Masami is the tallest.
Các quy tắc của dạng so sánh với tính từ:

1. Comparatives and superlatives
a) So sánh hơn (Comparatives)
So sánh hơn là để so sánh giữa hai người hoặc vật/ sự vật.
Jiro is taller than Yukio.
Yukio is tall, but Jiro is taller.
b) So sánh hơn nhất (Superlatives)
So sánh hơn nhất là để so sánh nhiều hơn hai người hoặc vật. Thông thường các câu so sánh hơn nhất có THE, bởi chỉ có một thứ là nhất.
Masami is the tallest in the class.
Yukio is tall, and Jiro is taller, but Masami is the tallest.
Các quy tắc của dạng so sánh với tính từ:

| Tính từ một âm tiết kết thúc là -e wide, fine, cute |
thêm -r: -> wider, finer, cuter |
thêm -st: -> widest, finest, cutest |
| Tính từ có một âm tiết nhưng kết thúc bằng một nguyên âm và một phụ âm hot, big, fat | nhân đôi phụ âm cuối và thêm -er: -> hotter, bigger, fatter |
nhân đôi phụ âm cuối và thêm -est: -> hottest, biggest, fattest |
| Tính từ có một âm tiết kết thúc bằng một nguyên âm, và nhiều hơn một phụ âm. light, neat, fast |
thêm -er: -> lighter, neater, faster |
thêm -est: -> lightest, neatest, fastest |
| Tính từ có hai Am tiết kết thúc bằng y happy, silly, lonely | Chuyển y thành i sau đó thêm -er: -> happier, sillier, lonelier |
Chuyển y thành i sau đó thêm-est: -> happiest, silliest, loneliest |
2. Much, many, a lot of và lots of
a) Many hoặc much thường đứng trước danh từ. Many đi với danh từ đếm được và much đi với danh từ không đếm được:
She didn't eat much breakfast.
(Cô ta không ăn sáng nhiều.)
There aren't many large glasses left.
(Không còn lại nhiều cốc lớn.)
* Many và much dùng nhiều trong câu phủ định và câu nghi vấn, trong câu khẳng định có thể dùng các loại từ khác như plenty of a lot. lots of... để thay thế.
How much money have you got? I've got plenty.
He got lots of men friends, but he doesn't know many women.
b) A lot of + uncountable noun + singular verb
Lots of + plural noun + plural verb
A lot of time is needed to learn a language.
Lots of us think it's time for an election.
c) Should do something/ Shouldn't do something.
Bạn có the dùng should để cho lời khuyên hay đưa ra ý kiến.
You look tired. You should go to bed now. (Anh mệt rồi. Anh nên đi ngủ đi.) "Should we invite Susan to the party?" "Yes. 1 think we should."
"Chúng ta có nên mời Susan đến dự tiệc không?” "Có, tôi nghĩ là chúng ta nên mời."
You shouldn't do that. (Bạn không nên làm điều đó.)
You shouldn't waste electricity. (Bạn không nên lãng phi diện.)
